BIRTHDAY BALL: CEREMONY, CAKE AND BARBEQUE IN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
The weather had been rainy for several evenings prior to this event. We had two 30'x60' tents but they were not needed to shelter from rain as the sky was clear and the temperature was very comfortable. David's Barbeque provided the meal which was served in generous portions while the band Crooked Counsel played old favorites. Raffles were held and winners walked away with great prizes, such as a special edition Colt .45, a smoker, a grill, a Ka-Bar knife, some very cool custom made insulated cups, and more. |
The High Springs Brewing Company was awesome. They donated the use of the facility and all proceeds from their sales that night went directly to the local Toys For Tots program. Owners Ken and Chris extended their generosity in providing everything we asked for and were there at the event helping us make it a success. The event would not have been as successful without our sponsors. We had three major sponsors this year: SkyFrog Tree Service, Bass Assassin Fishing Lures, and Lewis Oil Company. Our gratitude to them for hanging with us in this difficult year. This year, Matt Yakubsin headed up the effort and did most of the coordinating. He had a lot of help from Dennis Waite. Others assisted and many participated in making the event work, but our hats are off to Matt and Dennis for carrying the load; sort of like the lucky guys in the squad that get to lug around the .50 cal and the Mark 19 (grenade launcher)! They did a great job. Vernon Kisling did all the authorizing (as well as building the programs) while Jim Hutto managed all the money in and money out. It is quite the effort but you have a great team! As soon as the smoke begins to clear from this forest fire we called 2020, we will look to what might be in store for the 2021 Birthday Ball. |
