The annual community event where services and items are provided to our homeless veterans.
This year Gator Detachment will once again partner with Hitchcock's to provide several thousand dollars' worth of food and nutrition information to be given to these vets.
We are also helping our friends at the Vietnam Veterans of America Post in Alachua to collect toiletries to be distributed at the event.
We expect as many as 200 veterans will be there for assistance.
This day also happens to be POW/MIA Day. As we remember those who have not returned, we show our appreciation to those who are here and in need.
We can use help. Simple but important work, standing at a table and distributing items. Even if you can only stay for a short while, every bit of help is appreciated.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center is about one block west of Waldo Road north of NE 8th Avenue, adjacent to Citizen's Field and the Fire Station.
